“LILLIPUTIAN COMEDIES”
No information othan than Louis Weiss confirmed they were in fact produced(WOR) —
*****State’s Rights Exchanges:

The Weiss Bros. distributed their pictures on a State’s Rights basis (see previous posts), but apparently at one time had at least one film exchange of their own.  On occasion they acquired rights only for the limited territories served by their exchange, or exchanges.

Please send any corrections or comments to kit@kitparker.com, or post under “Comments.”  I’d particularly appreciate any help with the following questions:

“Lilliputian Comedies” ca.1916 comedy shorts — Does anyone have any information on these films?

“It May Be Your Daughter” 1916 feature — Director’s name?

“Mount Sinai and the Ten Commandments,” Episode 25 of “The Holy Bible in Motion Pictures” (1922)- This was the only episode Artclass copyrighted; why was it copyrighted in 1924, two years after its previous release, and why did they risk another battle with Paramount by adding “…The Ten Commandments” to the end of title?  [See previous blog]

“Ten After Ten” 1924 feature – Additional cast members?

“Tangled Herds” 1926 feature – Additional cast members?

“Ridin’ Rivals” 1926 feature – Additional cast members?

“A Short Tail” 1927 2-reel short – Why did Artclass own this Paramount short?

“J.” Tansey: – Was this Robert, or another, Tansey?

Various Short Subjects – Additional director and cast credits?

Great job, Kit! This is a valuable and long overdue list. I would add the 1928 reissue of ADVENTURES OF TARZAN. Cut to 10 chapters and retitled throughout, it’s significantly different from the original version and deserves its own entry.

Super — thanks, Ed. Will make the addition. Keep ’em coming.

Best,
Kit

Thanks again for letting me know about “You Can’t Win,” a Weiss serial announced for ’27 – ’28 which never came to be. My next post will mention another proposed serial in which Wiley Post was contracted to play the lead.

I would certainly like to see the “”Barnyard Comedies” as well as the “Crackerjacks” Thanks for the list and of course for the long awaited “Weiss O’ Rama” I enjoyed Richard Roberts’ commentary on these films.

Delighted you liked “Weiss-o-Rama,” and it is always a lot of fun working with Richard. By the way, he told me the “Barnyard Animal Comedies” and “Crackerjacks” are poor, so it isn’t likely we’ll ever release any of them!

I have one of the single reel “Crackerjacks” in my collection “Spooky Spooks”- This particular title is one of Bud Duncans’ films after his long running “Ham and Bud” series with Lloyd Hamilton. Marvin Loback, who co-starred with Snub Pollard in the Snub. Weiss Bros. films is in this title. He says they are “poor” Does this mean that these films were possibly the lowest budget of the Weiss offerings?? I would like to see the Poodles Hanneford title “Deaf , Dumb and Blonde”. Are you familiar with any of the Weiss early talkie features? I understand Julian Eltinge was in one of them.

Dear Bill –

Thank you for writing. I’m assuming you have a copy of our DVD release, “Weiss-O-Rama.” I understand the Crackerjack’s were the lowest of the low budget Weiss Bros. comedies. The early talkie Weiss Bros. features are describe in my blog “Artclass and Beyond.”

Best,

Kit

Any list of the animated cartoons that Weiss distributed? I have a “Screen Tune:Summer Harmonies” (a rip-off of the Fleischer “Screen Songs”) that was produced by Metropolitan Studios in Fort Lee, New Jersey. The Weiss name appears in the titles.
